Echoes of Dissent Ep 14 - When the People Sing
A crowd starts singing, oppressive regimes start paying attention – sometimes. Episode 14 follows ‘Do You Hear the People Sing?’ from Les Misérables' barricades in 1832 Paris, to the real streets of Budapest and Hong Kong. The anthem becomes a genuine act of defiance against power. Then we bring it home – a closing look at Aotearoa's own Freedom scorecard with voting rights, the Treaty Principles Bill, media freedom, and some early electioneering policies. Protest songs aren't just soundtracks to history. Sometimes they make the history.

A Sonic Youth ep 247 - The Go, Pip Blom, Snail Mail
The Go had it all going for them. They had a great sound, mixing garage rock with power pop and a bit of glam rock. They were signed (alongside Nirvana, Mudhoney, etc.) on Sup Pop Records. And, on their first record, their lead guitarist was a certain guy named Jack White. So why haven't you heard of them? Well Oliver can't answer that, what he can do is play a selection of brilliant tracks from The Go, including one from their 'lost' album. Also, a newly remastered version of Oliver's favourite track from Dutch indie rockers Pip Blom, and a look at the brilliance of early Snail Mail. Tracklist: 1. The Go - Keep On Trash 2. The Go - Come Back 3. The Go - Free Electricity 4. Pip Blom - Babies Are A Lie (2026 Edition) 5. Snail Mail - Thinning 6. Snail Mail - 2nd Most Beautiful Girl In The World (Courtney Love Cover) 7. Snail Mail - Habit Follow @asonicyouthpodcast on Insta and Facebook. This show is part of the Free FM 89.0 YOUTH ZONE. Made with support of NZ on Air.

The Paleface Parabola - 15-07-2026
Immediately, let’s raise a foamy mug of amber nectar to Ricardo, who took the wheel of our Parabola last week and tripled up on the musical joy with his concept of threesomes... In this case meaning Rush, Morphine, Bill Evans, Motörhead and more. A sensational show. Ricardo, you passed the audition. Dig you next time. The Mystery Man and our team plus me have reconvened this week and renewed the quest seeking fortune and glory. We’ll settle for the glory as it’s getting late early around here. Feeling good about the programme in recent weeks. Been playing, even if it’s some of the same artists, different songs – which is a stimulant psychologically to me and hopefully for your ears as well. Such as... Weird Al, Mavis Staples, Gregory Isaac, Freddie ‘Boom Boom’ Cannon, Jenny Lewis, and the Mystery Man chipped in VRI. Feel the fun.Come on in... the water is fine.

Tanglaw Connect Ep 5 - Neil & Mel: When a New Country Becomes Home
We hear the inspiring journey of spouses Neil and Mel Alin as they share how New Zealand gradually became the place they now proudly call home. Neil arrived in Aotearoa New Zealand on a work visa after being encouraged by a former colleague, knowing very little about the country he was about to call home. But as he settled into life in New Zealand, he began to dream of building a future here - not just for himself, but for his entire family. For Mel, however, the journey was very different. Having built a successful career in the Philippines as a manager in Cebu, leaving behind a fulfilling profession and starting over in a new country was far from easy. Adjusting to a new life while raising their three sons brought unexpected challenges, doubts, and sacrifices. Over time, what once felt unfamiliar gradually became home. Through perseverance, family, and a shared vision for their children’s future, Neil and Mel found not only a new beginning but also a deep sense of belonging. Today, they have embraced New Zealand as their home and have chosen to become New Zealand citizens. Join us as they share an honest conversation about migration, family, resilience, and discovering that sometimes the place we never planned to stay becomes the place where new dreams take root.

Vedic Wisdom Part 1 - Surrender or Rebel
Surrender or Rebel Society imposes a narrative that we are all expected to follow but it is not the wishes of the Lord for us. He wants us to voluntarily serve Him as opposed to comply with the ‘powers that be’ through false authority under man’s laws. Surrender means to the Lord. Rebel means to false authority.

Back Porch Bluegrass Show - 14-07-2026
I was doing a recording session on banjo for music producer Dan Cosgrove, and thought he’d be a great guest on Back Porch Bluegrass. I was right! I ask Dan about his recording work, the ins and outs of being an engineer/producer/musician, and how he goes about it. I also play him some bluegrass music that I know he’ll be interested in, for the variety of techniques used in production. The CD’s I used on this show feature Dan Tyminski, Claire Lynch, the Bluegrass Album Band, Flatt & Scruggs live, Seldom Scene, Earl Taylor, and Dan Crary.
