The Free Breakfast – Bill's Piano - 24-12-2025
Free FM contributor Andrew Johnstone recounts how his work recording oral histories for the Cambridge Museum led to the rediscovery of Cambridge Ode, a 1964 avant-garde composition by Cambridge-born composer David Farquhar. The piece was first performed by William “Bill” Vosper, a Mangatautari sheep and beef farmer and highly accomplished pianist. Now, Andrew shares the story of the late Vosper’s rare Steinway piano, still situated in Cambridge, and his Givealittle campaign to move and restore it for the museum, ensuring it remains a living instrument and a lasting tribute to Cambridge’s overlooked artistic heritage.
