The Paleface Parabola - 13-08-2025
I’m not clear on which caper this tour de farce is. What did transpire was that the Mystery Man and I got together on a hot summer night as if we were still young and had time to play records for each other. The difference in this instance is that we had an ocean of ears as an audience of critics from sea to sea rating our antics. It's now your time to rate our humble volunteer radio souls and incorporate the Paleface Parabola in your weekly survival plan. On this week’s walk on gilded splinters, feel it don’t fight it, and let the sound take you away because tomorrow is not guaranteed – and because it’s a well known fact, or a least it should be, that without music life would be an error! Two hours of a radio programme can be a revelation. And here’s a random sampler of what we did on Free FM and outward to the waiting world. 1 Sugar Pie Disanto & Etta James 2 Kaiser George & the Hi Risers 3 Robert Johnson 4 CSN & Y 5 New Steve Hackett ! And naturally, the Mystery Man’s Midnight Magic act of the week to complete the melee. Don’t swim against the tide, your arms will get sore. Swim away from the sharks and float to the Free FM 89.0 side of life from Hamilton NZ, a safe haven of joy from the North island of New Zealand... where our Mothership awaits you

Radio 2050 – Lasada Pippen - 13-08-2025
Lasada Pippen shares his journey from IT professional to motivational speaker. He talks of growing up in Atlanta, Georgia; a city with a vibrant culture and a deep history. Familial and societal expectations had pressured Lasada into pursuing a “safe” career in IT, but his real passion was motivational peaking. It took a lot of time and willpower for him to switch gears to pursue his dream, but after years of using his personal time to speak at free events, and encouragement from his wife, he finally took a leap of faith and pursued motivational speaking full-time. Radio 2050 is a mix of conversation and music that aims to inspire change throughout the world.

Back Porch Bluegrass - 12-08-2025
Back to bluegrass! Sometimes I miss hard-driving, 3-chord bluegrass, as I feature lots of variants on BPBG. So this week, I’ve made sure there’s an abundance of fast banjo picking, great singing and dextrous instrumental work. This comes from the likes of David Grisman, the Nashville Bluegrass Band, Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, high fidelity, and Thomas porter. Dolly Parton, with her fine bunch of bluegrass pickers gets to sing a couple of classics, Hot Rize do a great gospel song, and Tony Ellis picks some fine banjo. Real bluegrass here.

The Joy of Classical Music - Ep 115 - The Art of the Voice - 11-08-25
I finished last week's episode by saying that next week's episode would have no grand themes, just a collection of bits and bobs, music for music's sake. As it turns out, it’s another themed episode, The Art of the Voice. There’s bass singers, tenors, countertenors, sopranos, contralto’s baritones and a choir. And there’s a very special guest, Terry Huggins, a basso profundo from Geraldine. Cleo Laine and the Nash Ensemble performing Drunk with Moon Light from Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot in the Moonlight Terry Huggins performs Jacques Ibert - La Chanson de la mort de Gemma Bertagnolli performs Ottorino Respighi - Musica in horto Philippe Jaroussky performs Francesco Cavalli – Ombra mai fu Enrico Caruso performs Gaetano Donizetti - A Furtive Tear Feodor Chaliapin - Song of the Volga Boatmen Lina Mkrtchyan performs Mikhail Glinka - A Farewell to Saint Petersburg: No. 10, The Lark Cleo Laine and the Nash Ensemble perform The Sick Moon from Pierrot Lunaire Dmitri Hvorostovsky performs Tolstyakov - Come To Me, All You Who Labour Jessye Norman performs Eric Satie - Je te veux.
